Privacy Policy

How we protect your privacy, what data we collect, and your rights over your information.

How we protect your privacy, what data we collect, and your rights over your information.

FrameOS is operated by PAUELLE LIMITED (“PAUELLE LIMITED”, “we”, “us” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you use:

  • the FrameOS macOS application;

  • tryframeos.com and related FrameOS websites;

  • FrameOS purchasing, licensing, download and update services; or

  • FrameOS support and communications.

FrameOS is designed to be local-first. Recordings, screenshots, camera footage, microphone audio, connected-device audio and editing projects are processed on your Mac. They are not uploaded to PAUL LIMITED’s servers unless you deliberately send material to us, for example when requesting support.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with advertisers or use captured media for advertising.

Information processed by the FrameOS app

Recordings, screenshots and other media

Depending on the features you choose, FrameOS may access and process:

  • the screen and audio of a connected iPhone, iPad or Android device;

  • video from a Mac, Continuity, USB or virtual camera;

  • microphone audio;

  • screenshots and video recordings;

  • background images and other files you select;

  • editing decisions, export settings and project-recovery information.

This information is processed locally on your Mac. Project media and recovery information may remain in FrameOS’s Application Support folder until you export, discard or delete it. Finished files are saved to a location you select.

PAUL does not receive, store or have access to this media through the FrameOS licensing service. Because we do not possess locally stored projects, we generally cannot recover them if they are deleted or lost.

Camera and microphone access is controlled by macOS. You can review or withdraw these permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security. Withdrawing permission may prevent related FrameOS features from working.

Local settings and licence information

FrameOS stores settings such as capture presets, canvas styles, project recipes and file-access permissions locally on your Mac. Direct-download versions also store the licence key, installation identifier and signed licence entitlement in the macOS Keychain.

Purchases and licensing

When you purchase FrameOS directly, activate a licence or validate an existing installation, we may process:

  • your name and email address;

  • product, price, currency and transaction amount;

  • order, checkout, customer and payment-reference identifiers;

  • payment, refund and dispute status;

  • licence status and activation limits;

  • a randomly generated installation identifier;

  • your Mac’s device name;

  • FrameOS version and distribution channel;

  • activation and validation dates;

  • verification-code delivery and attempt information; and

  • transaction metadata or billing information supplied by the payment provider.

Full payment-card numbers and card security codes are handled by Stripe and are not stored by PAUELLE LIMITED.

The installation identifier is randomly generated rather than derived from a hardware serial number. Device and licence identifiers are protected or hashed where appropriate in our systems.

For Mac App Store purchases, Apple processes the payment under its own privacy policy. PAUELLE LIMITED does not receive your full payment-card details from Apple.

Product analytics and error monitoring

FrameOS uses PostHog’s European service for limited product analytics and technical error monitoring.

The app assigns a random anonymous identifier to an installation. Analytics may include:

  • app version, build and distribution channel;

  • general device platform or source category;

  • enabled camera and audio-source categories;

  • actions such as starting or completing a recording;

  • feature and editor interactions;

  • recording duration;

  • export dimensions, format and settings;

  • success, cancellation or failure outcomes; and

  • sanitised technical errors, stack traces, error classes or codes.

FrameOS analytics do not include:

  • recordings, screenshots, camera footage or audio;

  • the visible contents of your device or FrameOS window;

  • session replay or automatic screen capture;

  • file paths or filenames;

  • email addresses;

  • licence keys or verification codes;

  • installation or hardware identifiers as event properties;

  • user-assigned device or camera names; or

  • advertising profiles.

Person profiles, automatic screen-view capture and advertising tracking are disabled. PAUL does not combine these analytics with advertising data.

We use this information to understand whether important features work, improve FrameOS and diagnose failures. Where required by applicable law, we will obtain consent or provide an appropriate method to object before using non-essential device storage or analytics technologies.

Website, download and update information

When you visit a FrameOS website, download the app or check for an update, PAUELLE LIMITED and its infrastructure providers may automatically process technical information including:

  • IP address;

  • browser and device type;

  • operating system;

  • referring page;

  • pages viewed and links selected;

  • request date and time;

  • download or update requests; and

  • security, performance and server-log information.

The direct-download version of FrameOS may contact the FrameOS update service to check for and download updates. The Mac App Store version receives updates through Apple.

Cookies and similar technologies

FrameOS websites may use cookies, local storage and similar technologies for essential website operation, security, remembering preferences and statistical analytics.

The website is currently hosted using Framer, which may process website requests and aggregated usage information. Stripe may use its own cookies and security technologies when you visit a Stripe-hosted checkout page.

We do not use cookies for behavioural advertising. If we introduce technologies that require consent, they will remain disabled until you make a choice. You can also delete or block cookies through your browser, although some website functions may be affected.

Support and communications

When you contact us, we may collect your name, email address, message and any files or technical information you choose to provide.

FrameOS can create a diagnostic log file when you select the relevant support command. The file is saved locally and is not automatically sent to PAUELLE LIMITED. You decide whether to attach it to a support request. Diagnostic logs may include app, macOS and display information together with technical events and errors, but are designed not to contain recordings, screenshots or device-screen content.

If you subscribe to product updates, we process your email address and communication preferences. We may also send service messages necessary to deliver a purchase, verification code, licence, security notice or important product information.

Marketing messages are sent only where permitted by law. You can unsubscribe using the link in an email or by contacting us. Service and transactional messages may still be sent when necessary to fulfil a purchase or maintain a licence.

How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • provide, activate and validate FrameOS;

  • process purchases, refunds and disputes;

  • deliver licence keys and verification codes;

  • provide support and respond to requests;

  • maintain, secure and improve FrameOS;

  • investigate technical failures, fraud and misuse;

  • deliver downloads and software updates;

  • comply with tax, accounting and other legal obligations;

  • establish, exercise or defend legal claims; and

  • send marketing communications where permitted.

Legal bases

Where UK or European data-protection law applies, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Contract: to process purchases, deliver FrameOS, activate licences and provide requested support.

  • Legitimate interests: to secure and improve FrameOS, understand product reliability, prevent fraud, operate our website and protect our legal rights. We balance these interests against your privacy rights.

  • Legal obligation: to maintain legally required accounting and transaction records and respond to lawful requests.

  • Consent: where required for marketing or non-essential cookies and similar technologies. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

How we share information

We disclose information only where necessary to operate FrameOS, fulfil a transaction or comply with law. Providers may include:

  • Stripe, for direct payments, fraud prevention, refunds and disputes;

  • Apple, for Mac App Store distribution and purchases;

  • PostHog, for privacy-filtered product analytics and error monitoring;

  • Resend, for transactional and product emails;

  • Railway and database providers, for the FrameOS licensing service;

  • Framer, for website hosting and website analytics;

  • Cloudflare or similar infrastructure providers, for downloads and software updates; and

  • professional advisers, authorities or other parties where reasonably necessary to comply with law or protect legal rights.

These providers process information under their own terms or on PAUELLE LIMITED’s instructions, depending on the service.

We may transfer information as part of a merger, acquisition, restructuring or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection requirements.

International transfers

Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where required, we use recognised safeguards such as adequacy regulations, the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses.

You may contact us for more information about the safeguards relevant to your information.

Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

In particular:

  • local recordings, screenshots and editing projects remain on your Mac until deleted or discarded through FrameOS or macOS;

  • purchase, licence, refund and dispute records are retained while needed to provide the licence and for applicable tax, accounting, fraud-prevention and legal-claims periods;

  • activation records are retained while needed to enforce installation limits and manage the licence;

  • verification codes expire after the period stated in the verification email, although limited delivery and security records may be retained for longer;

  • support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve the request and manage related legal or operational issues;

  • analytics and error information is retained only while useful for product improvement, security and reliability, after which it is deleted or aggregated; and

  • marketing information is retained until you unsubscribe or we determine that it is no longer current, subject to retaining a minimal suppression record so we can respect your choice.

Information may remain temporarily in encrypted or access-controlled backups until those backups are replaced through their normal cycle.

Security

We use technical and organisational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. These include access controls, encrypted network connections, Keychain storage for local licence material, hashing or encryption of sensitive licence identifiers and restrictions on the information accepted by analytics systems.

No storage or transmission method is completely secure. If you believe your information or licence has been compromised, contact us promptly.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • request access to personal information we hold about you;

  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;

  • request deletion of information;

  • restrict certain processing;

  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;

  • receive certain information in a portable format;

  • withdraw consent; and

  • complain about how your information has been handled.

These rights are not absolute and may be limited where we must retain information to comply with law, complete a transaction, prevent fraud or establish or defend legal claims.

You have an absolute right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing.

To exercise a right, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

If you are in the United Kingdom, you may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. If you are in the European Economic Area, you may complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

FrameOS is a professional content-creation tool and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the FrameOS licensing service.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when FrameOS, our providers or applicable laws change. We will publish the revised policy with a new effective date. Where a change materially affects how personal information is used, we will provide additional notice where reasonably appropriate.
